If hiring Coffey as head coach is The Plan that Nicholson talked about lately, and Nicholson is certain that Oilers fans will buy into said plan, well, this entire notion leaves me speechless.If an NHL organization contemplated making him a head coach, its decision makers should be fired at once. ![]() He is in no way qualified to be an NHL head coach. But as head coach of the Oilers? Seriously? Is anyone in Oilers management really contemplating this? Coffey has never been a major junior, major college, AHL or NHL head coach or formal asst. He might add a lot as an assistant coach. It would be unremarkable if he were named as an asst.
